In the leather Industry, instability in the raw material prices and availability are both major headaches in trying to match supply with delivery. The current situation in both pricing and availability – mixed with some dubious activities are going to mean tough times for raw material sourcing for the next few years. In order to meet increasing demand of our leathers, streamline production and for smooth deliveries KTM focus to secure its supply line of raw material locally & internationally. In 1971 KTM made setup of 14 company owned raw hide purchase godowns in major cities all across Pakistan. 

In later years by adding 13 more KTM now owns total 27 Godowns at different locations for Raw Hide Purchase making strongest control all around Pakistan. Moreover KTM has been continuously sourcing Raw Hide and Wet-Blue from Brazil, UK, France, Yemen, Madagascar, South Africa and Russian States. We are the pioneer in Pakistan setting up temperature controlled raw material shed in our tannery where hides can be stored for a long time without being putrefied.

We have also taken a number of steps for ensuring greener production and a more environmentally friendly atmosphere in our tannery. Some of the steps are as follows:

    Rawhide Salt quantity decreased by introducing Desalting Machines in the raw hide section.

    AI-Masood welfare society was established to provide grants and interest free Loans
    Financial help to needy workers & their families
    KTM donates on regular basis for the welfare works at the jails, schools and hospitals of the local area with grants and special occasion arrangements.

    Runs dialysis centre at Nlshtar Hospital Multan (One of the biggest hospitals In south Asia)
    Runs water treatment plant in central city (Shamsabad) for providing purified water to the local community of that area.

Research and development is of great importance in today’s leather business as the level of competition, production processes and methods are rapidly increasing. It is of special importance in the field of marketing where one has to keep an eagle eye on modern trends and analyze the needs, demands and desires of their customers.

We at KTM have invested a lot of time, effort and finances in building good R&D infrastructure in the tannery. In the year 2012 KTM had spent around USD 0.5 Million on R&D.

We have state of the art research and development laboratories for both dyeing and finishing department, which are continuously developing new ideas for production, color ranges and article development.

Leather Testing Lab

KTM has established state of the art in-house analysis. Our laboratory equipped with modern testing facilities perform several physical tests like Colour & Rub Fastness, Elongation at break, water proofness and color detection through color box.

Dyeing Lab

At the R&D dyeing lab we have the following facilities available :

1. 11 Drums in different size for dyeing, which can accommodate small sample leather lots.
2. 1 state-of-the-art Italian technology stainless steel drum.

Finishing Lab

At the finishing R&D lab we have the following facilities available  :

1. 2 Spray booths
2. 1 Drying Chamber
3. Color testing chamber
4. Burn Test Chamber

We also have designated R&D team for the finishing and dyeing labs who are continuously developing new articles according to customer requirements. Apart from our R&D team, technicians from Europe and China are using these facilities for the development and training purposes.
